BRISTOL HISTORY

Bristol, Rhode Island is a small town located in the eastern part of the state. It has a rich history and is home to a number of notable people.

The history of Bristol dates back to the early 17th century, when it was first settled by English colonists. The town was named after the town of Bristol in England, and it was one of the first towns to be settled in the area. The town grew slowly over the next few centuries, and it remained a largely agricultural community until the mid-20th century.

One of the earliest settlers in Bristol was a man named John Poppas, who arrived in the area in 1680. Poppas built a small cabin near the Bristol Harbor, and over the next few years, more settlers arrived in the area. The town was officially incorporated in 1681, and it became a separate municipality from the neighboring town of Warren.

In the years that followed, Bristol continued to grow and develop. The town’s economy was based largely on agriculture, with many residents growing crops such as corn, wheat, and hay. The town was also home to a number of mills, which were used to grind grain and produce textiles.
