Scituate, Rhode Island is a small town located in the northern part of the state. It is known for its rural charm and beautiful countryside, as well as its rich history and interesting people.

Its history dates back to the early 17th century, when it was first settled by English colonists. The town was named after the Scituate area of Massachusetts, From which many of the early settlers came. The town grew slowly over the next few centuries, and remained a largely agricultural community until the mid-20th century.

In the years that followed, Scituate continued to grow and develop. The town’s economy was based largely on agriculture, with many residents growing crops such as corn, wheat, and hay. The town was also home to a number of mills, which were used to grind grain and produce textiles.

One of the most interesting aspects of Scituate’s history is its role in the American Revolution. In 1775, the town was the site of a skirmish between British and American forces, and many of the town’s residents played a key role in the fight for independence. The town’s historical society maintains a collection of artifacts and documents related to this period of history.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the town continued to thrive as an agricultural community. However, the town also began to develop other industries, including lumbering and manufacturing. The town’s population grew steadily, and by the mid-20th century, it had become a bustling community with a diverse economy.

Today, it is a picturesque town with a population with just over 10,000 people. It is known for its rolling hills and beautiful countryside, which makes it a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The town is also home to a number of historic buildings, including the Congregational Church, which was built in 1707, and the Old Town Hall, which was built in 1815.

One of the most notable features of the town is its system of reservoirs, which were built in the 19th century to provide water for the town’s growing population. The largest of these reservoirs is the Scituate Reservoir, which covers more than 1,000 acres.

Overall, Scituate is a charming and historic town with a rich cultural heritage. Its beautiful countryside and small-town atmosphere make it a great place to visit or live.

This Discover Scituate Website generates income through listings and advertising on the site, but any profits will be given to a chosen Scituate charity at the end of the year.  The generous sponsorship by Anchor Subaru allows us this opportunity to give back to the local community and we are grateful for their commitment to Scituate.
